Pro Kickboat Open on the Delta
John Lake sets new Delta
Open total weight record!
Bethel
Island Ca. July 19 & 20, 2008
Great
weather was in store all weekend for the 22 participants
who came out to fish the 2008 Bass-n-Tubes Delta Open at
Beacon Harbor on Bethel Island.
Day
one started out at 6:00am with the call to "go fish".
As they spread out the anglers would start their day fishing
at dead high tide in Piper Slough and Frank's Tract. Six
hours went by quickly and at the 12:00 noon weigh in it
was John Lake who was first to the scales and he set the
bar high. John weighed in his best five for a day one weight
of 20.14 pounds anchored by an 8.51 pound kicker. Dave Ryle
would take the day one second spot with a weight of 19.04
pounds for four fish. Dave also had a kicker that turned
to be the day one big fish at 9.17 pounds! Joey Castro would
hold down third place for day one with 5 fish for 18.16
pounds. And Gil Mora rounded out the top four with 15.15
pounds for his best five.
Day two started out as a carbon copy of day one. John Lake
was once again early to the scale and he would back up his
day one weight with five on day two for 21.10 pounds. John's
kicker for the day was 6.70 pounds anchoring another solid
limit. John's two day weight of 41.24 pounds would earn
him his second Delta Open victory. Dave Ryle brought five
to the scale for 12.47
pounds and a two day total of 31.51 pounds and a second
place finish. Joey Castro would take the third position
with another five on day two for a total weight of 26.70
pounds. Paul Mibach would back up his day one performance
and finish up with a two day weight of 24.73 pounds and
the fourth and final paying spot. Paul also had a 6.70 pounder
anchoring his bag which earned him a tie for day two big
fish with John Lake.
John's total weight of 41.24 pounds set a new Delta Open
total weight record beating last years record of 32.15 pounds
by more than 9 pounds.
The
Saturday evening festivities were the usual fun starting with
the casting contest. Steve Wilson was the strongest as he
flipped and pitched his way to victory in the casting contest.
For his win Steve earned himself a $50 cash prize.
The raffle was a blast with some awesome prizes donated by

prize. An ODC 420 lightweight combo donated by The Creek Company.
